Subliminal.com

What amuses me is how they regulate the hell out of TV for “subliminal advertising.” Not too long ago KFC got their hands smacked for a VERY clever ad for PVR users. Basically they understood that PVR users were zipping through commercials, so they put in a coupon code that required you to pause the commercial (which is a nice feature of PVR as well) to get it. Anyway, some jackasses in some department of something or another pulled the commercial, calling it subliminal advertising.

Well, making my rounds on the internets today I am looking at this beautiful new site for Volvo and find that when I leave my cursor over the .swf while loading, a series of very rapidly moving words appear. Basically they are brand attributes for Volvo, but these are really moving too fast to read. In fact, I might venture so far as to call this subliminal advertising. So, why can’t KFC have a really smart commercial to deal with PVRs but the internets can have all kinds of ads that are more or less what the FCC calls subliminal?
