The ol’ Current has learned me something again. Do you remember Christian Hosoi? He was a mad popular skater in the 80’s, rocked probably the coolest shaped board I can remember: the hammerhead. Anyway, my brother, me and my friends were all seriously into Hosoi.

I’m watching Current last night and come in to the middle of a pod about some professional skater who became addicted to the ol’ crystal methamphetamine and spent about 4 years in prison. It took a couple of minutes for me to realize it was my beloved Hosoi! You silly meth head.

The part that was particularly interesting was how Hosoi found the ol’ Lord in prison. I’ve never heard that story before, interesting. I think Jesus preys on the weak, the sick and the incarcerated which is kinda creepy. Anyway, the other interesting bit was that he was released early largely because of over 100 character statements on his behalf, largely part of a campaign his wife started in the skating community to get him out. She likes Jesus too.

As with any story about a really famous person crashing really hard, there’s a movie. Be sure to check out the Rising Son trailer, it actually looks really good. Oh, and don’t forget to pick up the reissue of the famous hammerhead deck.
